Garage419’s season finale brings the team to Sonoma California to drive the new toy from the boys at Ford SVT, the Shelby GT500.

According to the Ford Website the muscle behind the New 2010 Shelby GT500 is a supercharged and intercooled 5.4-liter 32-valve V8 engine that’s capable of delivering 540 horsepower and 510 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is mated to a quick-shifting and smooth Tremec 6-speed manual transmission. SVT performance-tuned suspension components, unique 18-inch bright machined-aluminum wheels with SVT center cap (convertible) or 19" premium painted wheels (coupe), and sport bucket seats with leather seating surfaces are additional features that push this spectacular vehicle to the forefront of the herd.

I have to admit that this is one of the Muscle Cars that I’m becoming really fond of, not only because of the raw power, but also because every generation seems to bring with it further refinements and improvements which ultimately improve the performance, safety and driver experience.

Some criticisms were leveled at the previous 2009 model stating that it was a terrible thing to wrestle this beast through corners and that it detracted from the driver experience, but the developers have listened and responded very well to the feedback, resulting in a much better cornering and handling experience when behind the wheel of the new 2010 Shelby Mustang GT500.

I cannot help but to have a Wayne’s World moment looking at this beast — It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine!

I’ll source some kick-butt desktop wallpapers for you Shelby fans out there and append them to this post when it gets revised, so watch this space.
